Sixth place for Danny in first Moto2 outing
It was a good first test for the Leopard Racing team on their Moto2 World Championship debut. A finish in the points was the goal and Danny Kent duly delivered.
Danny gained three places with a fine start as Pole man Folger attempted a solo escape but fell on the second lap with a lead of more than 1.5s. The Moto3 World Champion kept contact with the leading group after Race Direction sanctioned 8 riders for Jump Starts.
The victory went to Thomas Luthi, who fought a race-long battle with Franco Morbidelli before the Italian took a time penalty for a jump start.
Danny crossed the line in sixth position on his return to Moto2 while teammate Miguel Oliveira just missed the Top10 on his debut in Moto2.
The next race is scheduled for the weekend April 1 to 3, at Termas de Rio Hondo for the Grand Prix of Argentina.
#52 Danny KENT – 6th:
“I have to say thanks to the team because all weekend we’ve not had the best set up but we never gave up and slowly been creeping forwards. If we’d gone into this weekend knowing we’d be sixth we’d have been really happy with that. I know some crashed out and some jumped the start but that’s racing, we kept our cool and took sixth but we know we have to keep working hard to make the next step and with 17 races ahead of us we’ll keep getting faster and faster.”
