Danny makes changes for the better in COTA qualifying
The Circuit of the Americas once again saw Danny Kent and teammate Miguel Oliveira spend the day searching for the right feeling with their Kalex.
In the morning session the rain came and made the track’s condition worse. The duo were unable to express themselves fully and could not improve.
The official Qualification session of the afternoon was fortunately held of dry asphalt, allowing the British rider to make up for lost time and improve his bike for the race.
The level of the intermediate class continues to grow, pole man Alex Rins lowering the lap record by a dramatic amount.
The Moto3 World Champion, Danny Kent, was on track with a number of radical changes to his suspension to try and improve his feeling.
With great determination the Englishman was able to lower his lap time to a 2’10.274 and will commence battle from the sixth row.
Tomorrow at 09:10 local time (GMT -5) there will be the 20-minute warm-up session; at 12:20 local time the start of the Grand Prix of the Americas will happen; the third round of the 2016 season of the World Championship.
#52 Danny KENT – 16th (2’10.274):
“Finally it wasn’t a bad qualifying considering how bad the weekend was. We’ve been struggling all weekend with my feeling on the front end. We went into Qualifying and I wasn’t very confident. We were quite confused and made a change for the session which turned out to be the right change. You saw in the lap times that I went two seconds faster than all weekend. It was a much better feeling with the bike and I’m starting to have fun riding around here. We’ve reduced the gap to 1.4 second to the top. This track is very close, tomorrow will be a hard race. The change we made is making me feel a lot more confident.”
