Danny Kent closes in on the top ten at Le Mans

It was an encouraging first day of free practice for the Leopard Racing team in the Moto2 class at the Bugatti Circuit, the hosts of round five of the 2016 World Championship. Both riders of the Stefan Kiefer team have performed well, ending near the top of the class across Friday’s two sessions.

Danny Kent arrives in France with the intent to leave his problems behind him. The Moto3 World Champion has spent the day focusing on the different tyre compounds, hard and soft, as well as suspension settings. All this was with the goal of gaining greater confidence during braking and under heavy acceleration, a key point of the Le Mans circuit.

In Free Practice 2, Danny was able to make a great time and closed Friday just outside the top 10, missing out by just 0.025s. He was also only one second off the fastest time of the day, ‘landlord’ Johann Zarco who is the reference for the class. Kent’s time of 1’38.320 is a solid base to work from.

Tomorrow practice resumes at 10:55 (GMT +2) for the third practice session before Qualifying commences at 15:05 for the intermediate class.

#52 Danny KENT – 11th (1’38.320):
“It’s been a good start to the weekend, I’m happy and motivated. The teams done a good job for day one. We have a few problems with the setup for the number 1 tyres. As soon as we put in the 0 tyre then all our problems are gone. We have a plan this weekend and so far things are going in the right direction. We’re p11 but I’m happy. A few things to change but a good day at not one of my favourite tracks.”
