Solid start in the desert for Danny

 In News

The conditions were very similar like during last Sunday’s final session in preseason testing with strong winds and a lot of sand on track.

Unfortunately, Danny wasn’t able to hit the track with the start of FP1 although the young British rider just needed some laps to underline this initial speed. Under stronger windy conditions, he was able to improve his lap time from the first session.

Friday’s Moto2™ schedule at the season opener contains with the third and final free practice FP3 just one outing for teams and riders in the intermediate category.

#52 Danny KENT, FP1: P8 – 2´01.016 (8/11) / FP2: P13 – 2´01.263 (16/16):
“Overall, it was a good start into the first race weekend and I’m happy with the bike so far. Unfortunately, we missed the first part of FP1 because of a small issue with the bike. But this wasn’t a big thing at all. As soon as we fixed it, I was able to set fast lap times and we finished the session eight fastest though we lost a lot of valuable practice time. During FP2 later in the evening, things went pleasingly well. We made a few changes to the bike which worked out well and we saved some tyres for the rest of the weekend. During this session, I did my fastest lap time at a point where the tyres lasted already 25 laps. These are five more than the race distance on Sunday. So, for this the situation looks promising, it’s getting better and better. Beyond that, we already have some ideas how to improve tomorrow. Nevertheless, we will have a look on the data if we’re right in this way. Apart from that, I would say that we succeeded during the opening sessions.”
